Fred Hemmings: A Prolific Hawaiian Surfer – World Surfing Champion - Hawaiian Surfer Hall of Fame – Hawaiian State Senator – simply put, a Hawaiian Icon….

This original hand shaped Duke Kahanamoku “Fred Hemmings Maui Model” is 100% original and FLAWLESS!!!!   Mr. Fred Hemmings quotes, “I had this modeled after a Brewer board I used in competition”.   When looking at the template of this board, the fin resembles the fin of a Dick Brewer Gun.  Most Butch Van Artsdalen and Fred Hemming Model Duke Kahanamoku boards were hand shaped in the Greg Noll factory in Honolulu.  Mr. Hemmings also quotes “This board was part of the Duke line up, sold with my endorsement and name”.  Fred can be seen posing with his board next to Duke Kahanamoku and some other TEAM RIDERS Paul Strauch and Joey Cabell for Dukes sneaker advertisement, see photos in Gallery.  Some Duke Kahanamoku boards were less than premium or pop outs that are thick with a big ‘D” fin.  But Fred wanted Dukes name on a board made especially for him exclusively.   Very few boards exist today with Fred’s signature under the glass by the logo.  In the Greg Noll book “The Art of the Surfboard” Fred can be seen on pg 74 posing with other Greg Noll Team riders in front of Greg and Duke from the 1968 April Edition of Surfing Magazine.  This is truly a piece of historic Hawaiian history that is not be over looked.  This board can be seen in person at the Heritage Surf Shop in Sea Isle, NJ.   Good luck!
